Partner 3:
Danish Veterinary Institute (DVI), Department of Virology, Lindholm, Denmark
Current expertise:
Two Danish veterinary institutes - Danish Veterinary Institute for Virus Research (DVIVR, Lindholm, Partner 3) and the Danish Veterinary Laboratory (Copenhagen and Aarhus) have merged to Danish Veterinary Institute, DVI from the 1st of January 2002. DVI is a new governmental research institute under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. DVI has about 530 employees and is situated at three locations in Denmark: Copenhagen, Aarhus and at the island of Lindholm in Stege Bay. The Department of Virology at Lindholm (former DVIVR) is working with viruses occurring in the country, but has also high security facilities to perform research with exotic viruses, like foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). The research activities are conducted by a number of senior scientists with experience in veterinary virology and related areas (e.g., molecular biology, immunology, protein chemistry and cell-biology) in co-operation with younger scientists, post doctoral researchers and Ph.D. students, in total, more than 20 employees with academic background.
The main activities are diagnosis and vaccine production. The Partner works on development of real-time PCR assays. The main subjects are panpestivirus detection system, ASFV detection, PRRSV detection and differentiation among American and European strains, and circovirus detection. The Partner have compared the PriProET (Primer probe energy transfer) system to TaqMan and molecular beacons and found that PriProET has several practical advantages for viral detection.
