Project Co-ordination Meetings

The First Co-ordination Meeting in Uppsala
The kick-off meeting of the project was held in Uppsala on 15-17 October 2000. After introduction of the participants and presentation of current research on PCR detection of the eight viruses each partner group gave a short presentation about their institutes and current research on the topic. The next subject was the presentation of the project, administrative remarks by the co-ordinator and planning exactly the tasks, using the Technical Annex as basis. Each sub-task was discussed under the lead of the main responsible of the respective sub-task. The following subjects were: Future programme, next meeting, homepage, prospects for publications, other issues, and conclusions.

The Second Co-ordination Meeting in Madrid
The second co-ordination meeting took place in Madrid on 21-24, April 2001. The work of the Consortium for the first six months was summarised. The Co-ordinator of the Project, Prof. Sándor Belák, presented the current situation and the recent changes in the Project. Each group gave a 20-30-minute presentation followed by discussion about their current research. A Half-year Report of each Partner was presented to the Co-ordinator.

The Third Co-ordination Meeting in Budapest
The third co-ordination meeting took place in Budapest on 2-5, May 2002. The work of the Consortium was revised. As on the second co-ordination meeting the Co-ordinator of the Project, Prof. Sándor Belák, presented the current situation and the recent changes in the Project. Each group gave a 20-30-minute presentation followed by discussion about their current research. A half-year report of each Partner was presented to the Co-ordinator for the period 01-09-2001 - 15-05-2002.

The Fourth Co-ordination Meeting in Seville
The forth co-ordination meeting took place in Seville on 24-25, October 2002. The work of the Consortium for the current period was summarised. Each group gave a 20-30-minute presentation followed by discussion about their current research. Future plans and collaboration in the FP6 were discussed as well.

The Fifth Co-ordination Meeting in Copenhagen
The fifth co-ordination meeting took place in Copenhagen on 25-26, April 2003. The work of the Consortium for the current period was summarised. Each group gave a 20-30-minute presentation followed by a discussion about their current research. Detailed discussion about the work packages (WPs) took place. Each work package (WP), sub-work package (SWP) and agreement(s) on it were discussed under the lead of the main responsible person. The responsible person presented how the WP/SWP was approached, what type of collaboration was needed (including requirements from other participants) and approximate timeframe. In addition, all new ideas were also discussed. Actions for each Partner in the Project were confirmed or revised.

The Sixth Co-ordination Meeting in Torremolinos
The last co-ordination meetings took place in Torremolinos (Spain) during the fourth year of the Project (28-29 November, 2003). Achieved results in each workpackage, current situation, recent changes and planned work in the project were discussed during the meeting. The closing activities of the project were discussed, such as experimental work, reports, articles, and other ways of dissemination of results. The co-ordinator informed the partners on the rules for preparation of the Consolidated Periodic and the Final Reports and the Technological Implementation Plan (TIP).

The further work after the termination of the project was also discussed.
A new EU project proposal on molecular diagnostics was planned; with special regard to the first-line (on-site) diagnosis of nine OIE List A diseases and swine influenza. The proposal was submitted to the European Commission on 13 January 2004 by the six-members of the consortium and by three new partners from Italy, Belgium and from the UK.
The acronym of the proposal is LAB-ON-SITE.

Changes in the Project

Year 2000-2001

1. SVANOVA (P6, Uppsala, Sweden) became an independent private company from the 1 st of January 2001.

2. The Norwegian company, GenoVision, initially replaced SVANOVA's subcontractor, Exiqon, without changing the corresponding budget. Since the subcontractor is a minor one no amendment to the contract was needed. However, during the Madrid meeting the Consortium decided that the work on Work Package 4 could be performed inside the Consortium and no subcontractor was needed. The majority of the work will be performed in the laboratory of P3 (Denmark) by visiting scientist from P5 (Hungary). Accordingly, re-allotment of funds will be done. The Consortium agreed that there was a good guarantee that the work would be efficiently completed in the laboratories of P3 by the contribution from the other Partners.

Year 2001-2002

1. Two Danish veterinary institutes - Danish Veterinary Institute for Virus Research (DVIVR, Lindholm, Partner 3) and the Danish Veterinary Laboratory (Copenhagen and Aarhus) have merged from the 1st of January 2002. As a consequence of this, the former DVIVR is now named "Danish Veterinary Institute, DVI". This is a new governmental research institute under the auspices of Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. The objectives of the Partner 3 after the merging have not been changed and the work with the QLK2-CT-2000-00486 project is continued without any changes.

2. Amendment to the contract QLK2-CT-2000-00486 that SVANOVA Biotech AB is added as a new Contractor (Partner 6) in the Project from the 1st of January 2001 and that Danish Veterinary Institute for Virus Research (DVIVR) is now named the Danish Veterinary Institute (DVI) (Partner 3) from the 1st of January 2002 was prepared and sent to the Commission for approval. The Amendment was signed by the Commission on the 30th of August 2002 and certified copies were sent to the Partners.

Project progress report: current update

The Third and the Final-year reports of each Partner were presented to the Co-ordinator during August 2003 and March 2004, respectively. Consolidated Periodic and the Final reports have been written and submitted to the EU Commission together with the cost statement summary in the middle of May 2004. The Technological Implementation Plan (TIP) of the Project was submitted to the EU Commission in May 2004.
